Free Pattern: Crochet Owl Hat

Whoooo’s ready for back-to-school?

Crochet Owl Hat - Free Pattern by Micah Makes

We are! This summer has been fun but it is quickly drawing to a close as school will be starting here in Pennsylvania later this month. My boys are super excited so we made a wise owl hat to get ready.

To make this hat you should follow the directions in my Versatile Earflap Hat Pattern available for download here. Make the entire hat and both edgings in the same color. We used Vanna’s Choice Yarn in Barley. You can add tassels, braids or pom poms to the earflaps if you want, but we decided to leave ours plain.

Follow the directions below to crochet the eyes and beak using worsted weight yarn and a G hook, and then sew them to the hat. I prefer to use 1/2″ buttons for the pupils, but if you are looking for an alternative to using buttons, you can always cut small circles from felt and sew them on, or you could make six single crochet in a magic circle, join with a slip stitch and then sew that on. Last, I tied two bunches of three strands above the outsides of the eyes for tufts of hair.
